This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies (browser localStorage) TopGuilds (https://topguilds.net) uses, and why. TopGuilds is operated by BotGG. For how we handle personal data in general, see our Privacy Policy.

1. Summary

One cookie, and only if you sign in. TopGuilds sets a single, strictly necessary session cookie, tg_sid, when you sign in with Discord (and briefly while you are being sent to Discord to sign in). Visitors who only browse get no cookies from us.
Three browser-storage entries that stay in your browser and are never sent to us: your saved servers, your accessibility settings and your choice on the cookie notice.
No analytics cookies, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no third-party fonts or scripts. Server icons and banners are served from topguilds.net itself, so public pages do not connect your browser to Discord, Imgur or other image hosts.

Name: tg_sid
Type: strictly necessary, first-party HTTP cookie (HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, and Secure on the live site)
Purpose: keeps you signed in to TopGuilds and protects the Discord sign-in against forgery. The cookie holds only a random session ID. The session data itself (your Discord ID, name and avatar, the servers you can manage and a security token) is stored on our server.
When it is set: only when you start signing in with Discord, and for as long as you stay signed in.
Duration: up to 7 days. Logging out deletes the session on our server and clears the cookie.

Because this cookie is needed to provide the sign-in you ask for, it does not require consent. If you block it, you can still browse TopGuilds, but you cannot sign in, list a server or vote.

3. Browser storage

These entries are saved in your browser's localStorage. They are not cookies, are never sent to us and are created only when you use the feature:

topguilds-saved-v1: the servers you saved with the "Save" button, so you can find them again. Kept until you remove them or clear your browser storage.
tg-a11y-v1: the settings you chose in the accessibility toolbar (see the Accessibility Statement), so they apply on every page. Kept until you press "Reset" in the toolbar or clear your browser storage.
tg-consent-v1: that you have seen and closed the cookie notice, so we do not show it again. Kept until you clear your browser storage.

On your first visit TopGuilds shows a short notice about cookies. It is for information only. Today TopGuilds uses no optional cookies, so there is nothing to switch on or off: the only cookie is the strictly necessary session cookie described in section 2.

If we ever add optional cookies or similar technologies (for example for analytics), we will update this policy, and they will stay off until you allow them. You will be able to change your choice at any time.

5. Third parties

Signing in with Discord takes you to discord.com, where Discord's own cookies and privacy policy apply.
The signed-in dashboard shows the icons of your own servers directly from Discord's servers (cdn.discordapp.com), so Discord receives your IP address and browser details when you use the dashboard.
Buying TopGuilds PRO takes you to the BotGG console, whose checkout uses PayPal. The BotGG Cookie Policy applies there.
Joining a server takes you to Discord.

6. Visit statistics without cookies

When visit statistics for server owners become available, they will work without cookies or browser storage and without storing IP addresses. How they work is explained in section 4 of our Privacy Policy.

7. How to delete cookies and storage

Log out to end your session and clear the tg_sid cookie.
Delete site data: in your browser settings, delete the cookies and site data for topguilds.net. This removes the session cookie and all three storage entries (your saved servers, accessibility settings and notice choice).
Reset accessibility settings with the "Reset" button in the accessibility toolbar.

You can also set your browser to block cookies. Blocking tg_sid prevents signing in; blocking storage means saved servers and accessibility settings are not remembered.

8. Changes

We will update this policy, and its version number, if we change the cookies or storage we use.
